Agartala, May 23: What began as participation in a village-level awareness programme soon transformed into a life-changing opportunity for Timbi Sharma, a woman from Agartala's Dukli area.
In the heart of West Tripura district, Timbi Sharma’s journey from a village awareness meeting to achieving self-reliance is emerging as a powerful example of women’s empowerment.
A member of Mrinmoyee Cluster Level Federation (CLF) under Dukli Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU), the woman found a new direction in life through the support and guidance of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
Inspired by the encouragement and livelihood support extended through TRLM, she took a bold and unconventional step — she entered the transport sector and launched her own auto-rickshaw service in Agartala city.
Challenges were there in her way. Operating an auto-rickshaw in a profession traditionally dominated by men required courage, determination, and resilience. However, Timbi refused to let social barriers stand in her way. With consistent effort and growing confidence, she gradually established herself as a dependable driver.
Today, her venture has become a strong pillar of financial security for her family. Together with her husband, who is also engaged in the same profession, the family now earns nearly Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 80,000 per month, ensuring a stable and dignified livelihood.
For Timbi, the auto-rickshaw is more than a means of income — it symbolizes independence, confidence, and the power of opportunity backed by institutional support.
Her story reflects the vision of Atmanirbhar Nari Shakti, where women are not only supporting their households but also actively contributing to economic growth and social transformation. It also highlights the crucial role of TRLM in nurturing grassroots entrepreneurship and enabling rural women to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Her success stands as an inspiration for countless women across Tripura, proving that with the right support system, determination, and belief in oneself, dreams can move beyond imagination and become reality.
