From Devastation to Hope: Flood situation gradually improving in Tripura, CM holds aerial inspection

Agartala, Aug 23: The flood situation continues to improve in Tripura bringing relief to the affected people as the rain stopped in most of the places since Thursday.

Some low-lying areas are still facing difficulties due to flood, but reports from some other places showing that the water is receding. If fresh fresh rainfall doesn't occur, the situation will soon improve, according to official sources.

The severe flood, caused by unprecedented rains since August 19, devastated Tripura, affecting thousands of people, claiming several lives and largely damaging crops and infrastructure.

The government's prompt response and concerted efforts have minimized the damage and ensured timely aid to those affected.

According to official sources, the flood waters have started receding with the water level of major rivers is coming down in most areas, revealing a trail of devastation but also stories of resilience and hope.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and his administration's quick response ensured that relief operations were launched promptly, providing food, shelter, medical care, and morale support to the affected people.

The community's response has also been heartwarming, with people from all walks of life coming together to help each other, share resources, and provide support in this difficult time.

The government's efforts to assess the damage are underway while the relief distribution has been intensified.

Meanwhile, the Centre has approved release of Rs. 40 crore in advance, as the central share from SDRF, to provide relief to the flood-affected people in Tripura.

On Friday, the update came from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on X. He also mentioned that the Centre has already deployed 11 NDRF teams, 3 columns of the Army, and 4 helicopters of the Air Force to Tripura for assisting the in relief and rescue operations.

"No matter what, our sisters and brothers in Tripura will find the Modi govt standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them to battle these difficult times," the Home Minister mentioned on X.

In response, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this support in this difficult time of flood.

"The constant support from your side is helping & motivating us to firmly fight this tough situation. I on behalf of Tripura convey my regards to the caring govt. in the central," the Chief Minister replied to the Union Minister's X post.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister on Friday took an aerial view of flood-affected areas in Agartala, Udaipur, Amarpur and Karbook by an MI-17 helicopter. 

The Chief Minister held aerial inspection of some flood-affected areas in South Tripura and Gomati districts. 

He also met flood victims at various relief camps and assured them of extending all necessary support including relief and medical care.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by officials, the inspected the Gomati river. During the time of visit, the river was flowing at 22.30 meters, which was above the extreme danger level of 22 meters.

All the families on the bank of the Gomati river in Amarpur, Udaipur, Sonamura and adjoining villages have been evacuated to safe places.

Amarpur is one of the worst affected regions where road infrastructure suffered severe damages. In the face of adversity, Helicopters have been deployed for airlifting the stranded people and road repair efforts are also underway.

The Chief Minister assured availability of adequate relief supplies and timely support to flood victims.

After conducting an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas- Amarpur, Karbook, Shantirbazar, Belonia, Matabari, Melaghar, Charilam, Bishalgarh & Agartala as well as carrying out physical inspection in some places, the Chief Minister in a social media post commented, "My heart goes out to the people affected by this natural disaster. We're working in close coordination with the Central Government to provide timely relief and support.'
