Agartala, Sept 24: In a small corner of Raipassa Barabari in Dhalai district, a modest beginning is gradually turning into a more secure and sustainable livelihood for Robisonti Molsom and her family.
A beneficiary of the TRIPTI Project, Robisonti has transformed small opportunities into multiple sources of income, combining savings, livestock rearing, backyard poultry, kitchen gardening and long-term plantation activities.
Her journey began with disciplined savings of Rs. 8,320 through her Self-Help Group (SHG). The savings provided an important financial foundation and helped her move towards diversified livelihood activities.
Under Livelihood Support Grant-I (LSG-I), Robisonti received two piglets. The initiative soon began generating returns. She earned Rs. 35,000 after selling the male pig, while the female pig gave birth to eight piglets, creating the potential for another cycle of income.
She subsequently expanded into backyard poultry with support under LSG-II. From the birds she received, her flock has now grown to 15. She has already sold five birds this season, earning Rs. 2,850.
Her kitchen garden has added another dimension to the family’s livelihood. Ridge gourd, beans, cucumber and other vegetables are grown on the homestead, generating around Rs. 3,000 in income while also providing fresh and nutritious food for the household.
But Robisonti is also looking beyond immediate earnings. With guidance and training provided through the project, she has planted more than 200 rubber saplings, laying the groundwork for a longer-term source of livelihood.
The benefits of her progress extend beyond income generation. Robisonti is covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), while the family also holds an Ayushman card. They are beneficiaries of PMAY (Gramin), possess a ration card and have access to employment under MGNREGA.
With her husband supporting the household and her son pursuing his studies in Class 6, Robisonti’s story reflects a gradual shift from dependence on a single source of livelihood towards a diversified and more resilient family economy.
From Rs. 8,320 in SHG savings to livestock, poultry, a productive kitchen garden and more than 200 rubber saplings, her journey illustrates how small, structured interventions can create pathways towards greater financial security and a sustainable future.
