Agartala, Sept 01: In view of the recent floods that devastated Tripura, the NSS unit of Gandhigram Higher Secondary School has come forward and joined the relief efforts, providing aid to the flood victims at Amarpur.
In recent history, the state has not faced a natural calamity as severe as the recent floods. Amarpur sub-division in Gomati district has been the worst affected. Being close to the Gomati River, the sub-division experienced the river's devastating fury.
Areas such as Bamunpara and Birganj, along with the Nagar Panchayat area, have suffered the most damage. The residents of these areas have lost everything and are now taking shelter in relief camps.
From children to the elderly, everyone is goong through immense hardship. Some families had to flee their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs to escape the terrifying floods.
The state government, along with district and sub-division administrations, is making every effort to support affected people in this challenging time.
Alongside the administration, various organizations and individuals are also providing relief materials to the flood victims. The NSS unit of Gandhigram Higher Secondary School is one of them.
Led by Program Officer Joy Ghosh, the school students, NSS volunteers and teachers collectively gathered clothes from different sources and distributed them in the flood-affected areas of Amarpur recently.
They also distributed milk, biscuits, soap, mosquito coils, candles, and mosquito nets for children, along with a significant amount of sanitary pads for women.
Their efforts were praised by Amarpur Municipal Council chairperson Bikas Saha. Two teachers- Ashim Biswas and Sanjib Debnath, along with volunteer Shankhadeep Chakraborty were present during the distribution of these relief materials.
According to the NSS Program Officer, they have planned to deliver more relief supplies to other flood-affected areas in the coming days.
