Gondatwisa emerges as leader in Tripura’s mango production

Agartala, July 07: Leaving behind all obstacles, Tripura’s Gondatwisa has now become a leader in the state’s Mango production.
Previously deemed an isolated area, Gondatwisa suffered the most during the insurgency period. But, the mango growers from this place are now achieving a significant milestone.
According to Minister for Agriculture Ratanlal Nath, the people of 15 ADC villages are devoted to growing 22 mango varieties on 212 hectares of land at Gondatwisa, previously known as Gandacherra.
The farmers of this region are growing Amrapali, Himsagar, Rupali, Miyazaki, Haribhanga and other varieties of mangoes. To showcase the diverse production, a Mango Festival was held at Narkelkunja in the sub-division on Sunday.
The festival, inaugurated by Minister Nath, was the state’s first and it marked a notable achievement in Tripura’s horticultural sector. Nath also opened a Farmers’ Knowledge Centre during the event.
Later speaking to the media, Nath stated that the mangoes cultivated in Gondatwisa not only meet the state’s demand but are also exported to other states.
He assured that the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare department is committed to providing comprehensive support to the farmers in this region. Additionally, he invited horticultural producers from across Tripura to visit Gondatwisa and exchange knowledge with the local farmers.
