Udaipur, Oct 21: The IT Minister launched the free Wi-Fi facility for 19 Government Colleges under Phase-1 at Netaji Subhash Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur in presence of MLA Ram Pada Jamatia, IT Director Jeya Ragul Geshan B, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Director of Higher Education and other dignitaries.
The launching event was organised by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura. In 19 colleges more than 55000 students are projected to be benefitted from this initiative.
With a total investment of about Rs. 12.32 crore under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, this initiative is being executed in a phased manner.
The Government is making significant strides in enhancing the educational framework by implementing a secured and free Wi-Fi network across all government colleges.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative for Digital India, the state government has introduced several facilities to develop Digital Tripura, Minister for IT Pranajit Singha Roy said this on Monday.
He said, the Digital Tripura initiative would now enable the students and teachers to use free Wi-fi facility in 19 government colleges.
In collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, the Directorate of Information Technology aims to provide free internet access on campuses, enabling students to explore a wide range of educational resources and online content.
This initiative creates a secure online environment, ensuring that students can safely access vital information for their academic pursuits. Additionally, college administrative staff, employees, students, and guests will have shared access to wireless network resources, supporting the Government of Tripuras mission of teaching, research, and outreach.
The 1st (first phase) has successfully established a secured and free Wi-Fi network with a high-speed internet backbone (100 Mbps) in 19 government degree colleges, while the second phase aims to expand this connectivity to an additional 11 colleges. This systematic rollout ensures that each institution is adequately equipped to support digital learning and engagement.
Students of Netaji Subhas Mahavidyalaya, Udaipur was present in large numbers during the programme. Faculty members from Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College, Belonia, South Tripura also attended the programme at the programme venue.
Faculty members and Students from MBB College Agartala and Womens College Agartala took part in a live interaction programme with Honble IT Minister through video conferencing system.
Faculty members and Students from other colleges across Tripura attended the programme virtually without interaction facility, these colleges are- Ambedkar College, Fatikray, Tripura Unakoti District, Government Degree College, Dharmanagar - North Tripura, Government Degree College, Longtharai Valley Dhalai District, Michael Madhusudan Datta College, Sabroom -South Tripura, Dasarath Deb Memorial College, Khowai District, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Kunjaban, Dist– WestTripura, Tripura Government Law College, Dist - West Tripura, Swami Vibekanada Mahavidyalaya, Mohanpur, West Tripura, Sri Aurobindo Government Degree College, West Tripura, Govt. Degree College, Khumulwng, West Tripura, Bir Bikram Memorial College, Agartala, Dist- West Tripura, Government Degree College, Old Agartala, Dist- West Tripura, Ramthakur college , Agartala, Dist- West Tripura, Kabi Nazrul Mahavidyalaya, Sonamura Sepahijala District, Ravindranath Thakur Mahavidyalaya, Bishalgarh, Dist- Sepahijala.
The implementation of this Wi-Fi network is expected to have a transformative impact on education in Tripura. By fostering digital literacy and collaboration, the initiative empowers students to engage more deeply with their studies and develop essential skills for the future workforce.
