Govt sets goal to develop Tripura as NE’s Education Hub: CM

Agartala, Sept 07: Tripura government has been working to develop the state as Education Hub of the Northeast region, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reiterated on Saturday.

The Chief Minister was addressing the gathering on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee celebration of prestigious Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Kailashahar of Unakoti district.

In his address, the Chief Minister mentioned that in Higher Education, the state has witnessed a significant hike in the Gross Enrolment Ratio of girl students since the government introduced free education for them in August, 2022.

He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the state government to support women empowerment. Some of the decisions included 33per cent reservation for women in government jobs, establishment of 'pink toilets’ and 50 per cent reservation for women in distribution of government stalls. 

He also gave credit to Prime Minister Modi for making the National Education Policy (NEP) a reality, which the state government has implemented in all colleges.

"Thanks to NEP, the next generation will benefit greatly. We have also introduced the 'Lakshya' scheme to help students prepare for competitive exams like the UPSC. The Dhamma Dipa University is set to open in Sabroom, and we are making progress on Techno India University and Aryavart International University. Additionally, we have Maharaja Bir Bikram University and Tripura Central University. Our aim is to transform Tripura into an educational hub in the Northeast. We now have dental and nursing colleges as well. It was not an easy task, and we faced many challenges, but we have succeeded," he concluded.

During the event, Social Education and Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Birajit Sinha, Special Secretary of Higher Education Raval Hamendra Kumar and others were present.

As part of the celebration, a photo exhibition reflecting the golden history of the college and a voluntary blood donation camp were also organized.
