Govt to open 50-Bed Agartala Civil Hospital soon

Agartala, July 3: The upcoming 50-bed Agartala Civil Hospital has reached the final stage of readiness, with the Health department completing all necessary preparations ahead of its formal inauguration, officials said on Friday.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, accompanied by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder and senior officials, inspected the newly constructed hospital and reviewed its infrastructure and facilities.

Addressing the media after the inspection, Gitte said the hospital was conceived under the initiative of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to strengthen urban healthcare services in the state.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in April last year, and construction has now been completed.

According to the Health Secretary, the government has already deployed seven doctors along with nursing and paramedical personnel to ensure the hospital becomes operational immediately after its inauguration. The facility has been developed with funding from the National Health Mission (NHM).

Initially, the hospital will function under the administrative supervision of the Medical Superintendent of Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital, he said.

Gitte further said, the new institution is expected to streamline patient flow by catering to individuals requiring primary healthcare services, while patients needing specialised treatment will continue to avail healthcare at IGM Hospital and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital.

The hospital has been equipped with essential modern infrastructure, including an oxygen generation plant, an emergency care unit and dedicated parking facilities. Gitte added that the inauguration date will be announced after the Chief Minister gives his approval.

Mayor Dipak Majumder said the establishment of the new civil hospital under the AMC is aimed at strengthening healthcare services while reducing patient pressure on the city's major referral hospitals.

He expressed confidence that the hospital would significantly improve access to quality healthcare for residents of the capital city and indicated that the inauguration is expected to take place in the middle of this month.
