Agartala, May 21: In a significant recognition of grassroots governance, West Majlishpur Gram Panchayat in Tripura has been awarded the prestigious Silver Award in the National e-Governance Awards 2024-25.
The panchayat, located under Jirania RD Block within the assembly constituency of Tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury, has been honoured for its exemplary work in enhancing service delivery through digital initiatives.
The award was conferred under the category ‘Grassroot level Initiatives for Deepening/ Widening of Service Delivery with focus on initiatives by Gram Panchayats or equivalent traditional local bodies’.
West Majlishpur is one of four panchayats across India selected for this honour by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the National Conference on E-Governance in Visakhapatnam on June 9–10. As part of the recognition, the panchayat will receive a medal, a certificate, and a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha lauded the achievement, describing it as a proud moment for Tripura and a reflection of the state's growing emphasis on transparent, efficient, and tech-enabled local governance.
Taking to social media, Dr. Saha noted that this latest recognition builds on the state's momentum from last year, when Tripura bagged seven national awards for excellence in Panchayati Raj, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
