Agartala, Mar 19: Announcing a major step in strengthening medical education in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday informed the House that around 10 acres of land have been identified at Srinagar under the Dukli Block for setting up the proposed health University.
The statement came during discussions on key Bills in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, which later unanimously passed five important bills focusing on higher education, governance, and regulatory mechanisms.
Highlighting the need for a dedicated Health University, the Chief Minister said Tripura currently has 27 health education institutions, including medical and dental colleges, and the number is expected to increase further. A separate university, he noted, would help streamline academic processes such as teaching, examinations, research, and quality control.
He added that while permanent infrastructure will be developed at the identified site in Srinagar under Dukli block, initial operations may begin from existing facilities like Agartala Government Medical College or from the Health Department building.
The Assembly also passed bills for establishing technical and women’s universities, alongside legislation regulating lifts and escalators and amendments to ensure time-bound delivery of public services. Describing the citizen services amendment as “people-centric,” Saha said it would enhance efficiency and accountability in governance.
The five bills passed in the House are- The Tripura University of Health Sciences Bill, 2026, The Tripura Government Technical University Bill, 2026, The Tripura Government Women’s University Bill, 2026, The Tripura Lift and Escalators Bill, 2025, and The Tripura Guaranteed Service to Citizens (First Amendment) Bill, 2026.
