Agartala, Sept 07: A huge consignment of ganja was seized by Tripura Police in collaboration with 140-Bn CRPF from a vehicle on the National Highway- 08 on Wednesday.

In an anti-drug raid, the policemen led by SDPO Ambassa- Suman Majumder raided a lorry bearing West Bengal registration number (WB25-J-0728) near Betbagan Naka point in Dhalai district.

While conducting search, the policemen found huge ganja consignment (1960 kg in 173 packets) and arrested the driver- Santosh Gope in this connection. According to Tripura Police, a case has been registered under the arrested person under the NDPS Act.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Police and other security agencies are keeping a close watch on the movement of ganja and drug smugglers and taking action frequently. But, still, a section of dishonest people is carrying out this illegal trade, causing huge damage to the young generation.

The situation is demanding a strong monitoring at various entry points including motor stands and railway stations to prevent the supply of narcotics items; local police has a major role to play in this regard.
