Agartala, Aug 9: Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has ranked 131st in the country, reflecting its growing presence in the medical education map. According to the latest International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) report, the AGMC has scored 772.54 in the Overall Weighted Index (out of 1000).

The AGMC’s segment wise scores are- Teaching Learning Resources and Pedagogy (127.83), Research Outcome- Volume, Income & Reputation (130.15), Innovative Medical Infrastructure (131.89), Social Inclusion (128.93), Future Orientation (127.83) and External Perception (119.33).

The ranking placed AGMC among the country’s top 150 medical institutions, marking a significant achievement for Tripura’s medical education and healthcare sector. It also reflects improvements in medical education under Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

At the national level, AIIMS New Delhi topped the list, while Madras Medical College, Chennai, and JIPMER, Puducherry secured the second and third positions respectively.

The IIRF ranking evaluates medical institutions on a range of indicators, including the quality of teaching and learning resources, research and academic output, industry integration, placement performance, future readiness and external perception.

AGMC’s latest ranking comes amid a sustained push by the Tripura government to upgrade medical education, hospital infrastructure and specialized healthcare facilities in the state.

Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha has been overseeing efforts to transform AGMC and GB Pant Hospital into advanced centres of medical excellence. The initiatives have focused on strengthening infrastructure, expanding specialised services and improving the availability of skilled medical professionals.

The medical college has also expanded its academic and research ecosystem through collaborations with reputed institutions and organizations, including AIIMS New Delhi, ICMR, Mohan Foundation and Jhpiego.
