Inaphi: Tripura’s Nirmala Sinha named for National Handloom Award

Agartala, July 29: Nirmala Sinha (52), a weaver of traditional Manipuri attire from Dhalai district in Tripura, has been named for prestigious National Handloom Award 2023.

Sinha, who hails from Barasurma village in Dhalai district, she has been weaving the Inaphi for the past 35 years.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha praised the exceptional skill and dedication of Sinha and greeted her for the recognition. 

Dr. Saha in a social media post mentioned, “Despite being a Divyangjan, her indomitable will and commendable work will serve as a source of inspiration to all the weavers of our state. Her success is a testament to the power of perseverance and dedication. Best wishes for continued success and recognition in the years to come.”

The award, announced by the Ministry of Textiles, will be presented to Sinha and other recipients from across the country on in New Delhi on August 7 next.
