Infant Mortality Rate comes down to 21% in Tripura: CM

Agartala, Aug 10: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday claimed that the state had registered a sharp decline in Infant Mortality Rate over the past few years.

The infant mortality rate had come down in the state to present 21 percent from 27 percent in 2015, he said after inaugurating the new building of Nutanbazar Community Health Centre

Dr. Saha, who attended several programmes at Amarpur sub-division of Tripura, said that the state government was working with priority to develop healthcare infrastructure at the primary level.

While highlighting the major initiatives taken by the BJP government, Dr. Saha mentioned that a plan was in the pipeline to upgrade all the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and health sub centres into Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) by 2022.

He also said, a new Medical College would soon come up at Ambassa in Dhalai district and the site had already been identified. Dr. Saha also spoke on the achievement of Tripura in the fight against Covid pandemic and tuberculosis.

Emphasizing on the need for smooth relation between the health staff and patients, he said, the doctors and other health staff always try to deliver the best service to the patients; the people have to keep faith in them and extend cooperation while availing treatment.

The new 30-bedded CHC building has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 5.2 crore sanctioned from the National Health Mission. 

In the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister felicitated Sumangal Chakma, headmaster of Nutanbazar Class-XII School, and four students for their special contributions in the Covid vaccination drive.

He along with other officials then inspected the new health facility and interacted with the local health staff.

MLA Ranjit Das, District Magistrate, Gomati- Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine department Dr. Radha Debbarma, SP Gomati Saswat Kumar and Chief Medical Officer, Gomati- Dr. Nirumohan Jamatia were present in the inaugural ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister as part of his Amarpur visit on Wednesday inspected the infrastructure at Nutanbazar Class-XII School and interacted with the students. 

Besides, he also joined another programme at 5th-Bn TSR camp in Paschim Doluma where he handed over national Flags to some of the students as part of har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
