Incessant rainfall in Tripura over the past 48 hours disrupted the normal life, causing damages to over 100 houses.
In view of the IMD’s prediction for more rainfall and preparedness to deal any emergency, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday held a meeting with high officials and reviewed the current situation.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also had telephonic discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday regarding damages in several stretches of National Highways in Tripura.
According to sources in the CMO, the Chief Minister requested the Union Minister to expedite the repair and construction work on the state's na
tional highways. The Union Minister assured the Chief Minister that prompt action would be taken to address the issue.
According to Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, a youth drowned in Jirania Sub-Division under the West Tripura District. The deceased- Tanmoy Debnath (16) was a resident of Mandalpara in Sachindranagar Colony.
He briefed the media on the damages caused by the heavy downpour and the measures taken by the administration.
The Revenue Secretary said, 106 houses were damaged due to incessant rainfall (Severely: 33, Partly: 73). The administration has so far opened four relief camps in West Tripura and Khowai districts with 207 people of 57 families currently sheltered.
The water level in various rivers continued to rise and several low-lying areas were submerged in rain water. All the major rivers except Howrah were flowing below the critical level till the last information came. Pandey said, he is in constant touch with the District Magistrate and Collectors and closely monitoring the situation.
“All districts have NDRF or SDRF on standby. Further, trained volunteers are also on standby with equipment for necessary rescue and relief measures,” he mentioned, while urging the people to remain indoors during heavy rainfall and squally winds and avoid venturing near rivers and low-lying areas.
An official press release said, due to fallen trees and broken electric poles, road access was disrupted in multiple locations including Panisagar, Longtharai Valley, Jampuijala, Jirania, Mohanpur, Sadar, Karbook, and Sabroom and all have been cleared with the support of SDRF, TSR battalions, Forest Department, and Community Volunteers. Damage assessments are still ongoing in the districts.
IMD Prediction:
As per the IMD report at 1 pm, the depression over Bangladesh moved north-northeast wards over Bangladesh about 110 km northwest of Dhaka (Bangladesh). It is very likely to continue to move nearly north-north east wards and weaken during next 12 hours.
Under its influence, Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall with Isolated Extremely Heavy Rainfall and Squally/Gusty winds is very likely to occur. IMD has issued Red Warning on Friday upto 8.30AM of 31st May, 2025 for North Tripura and Unakoti Districts. There are orange alerts for other districts.
An official report said, Mohanbhog in Sepahijala district has received the highest rainfall (204.8 mm) followed by Jirania (158.5 mm) and Agartala (121.6 mm).
