IPS Princee Rani set to lead BSF Tripura frontier as first woman officer

Agartala, May 30: Princee Rani, a 2005-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Tripura cadre, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier.

She is the first woman officer to lead the Tripura BSF. She will replace Aloke Kumar Chakraborty and is expected to assume charge within next few days.

Tripura shares 856-kilometre international border with Bangladesh. Her appointment to this position is significant in view of the central government's push to identify and deport illegal immigrants, curb cross-border crimes and drugs trafficking.

She joined the Indian Police Service in 2005 and was allocated to the Tripura cadre. Over two decades, she has built a reputation for competence in both state-level policing and central deputation assignments, with particular strengths in administration and internal security.

Her early career in Tripura Police included key operational and supervisory roles. She served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Traffic), where she oversaw the functioning of the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and the Superintendent of Police (Government Railway Police).

She later rose to the position of Inspector General (Administration) in the Tripura Police, demonstrating administrative acumen and leadership in managing complex state-level security challenges.

In January 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs appointed her as Deputy Inspector General in the elite National Security Guard (NSG) on deputation.

Within months, in March 2024, she was promoted to the rank of Inspector General in the NSG.

In recognition of her distinguished service, she was conferred the Medal for Meritorious Service in 2025.

On 10 April 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official order appointing Princee Rani as Inspector General in the Border Security Force, Tripura.

She is married to Prashant Kumar Goyal, a senior IAS officer of the Tripura cadre, who currently serves as Secretary in the Public Works Department and Finance Department of the Tripura Government following his return from central deputation. (With inputs from www.ssbcrack.com)
