Agartala, July 28: Jishnu Dev Varma, who earlier served Tripura as the Deputy Chief Minister, was appointed as the Governor of Telengana.

In the late night development, President Droupadi Murmu also appointed Governors for several other states.

Dev Varma will replace CP Radhakrishnan who held additional charge of Telangana.

A senior BJP leader, Dev Varma became the first person from Tripura to hold this position.

Dev Varma in a social media post thanked the  President of India and the Prime Minister for giving him the opportunity to serve the people as the Governor of Telangana.

"It is also a recognition for the people of my state -Tripura as this is the first time ,since Independence that a person from this state has been elevated to this post. I therefore thank both,  once again on behalf of Tripura," Dev Varma wrote.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha congratulated Dev Varma on being appointed as the Governor of Telengana and conveyed his gratitude to the President and Prime Minister for this decision.
