Agartala, Nov 13: Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma strongly came down on Tipra Motha following an attack on BJP ST Morcha president Samir Oraon at Barmura on Saturday evening.

In a social media post, he commented, Thansa (unity) cannot be achieved by Danda and constitutional solution can only be achieved through constitutional means, not by political goondaism. He referred to Tipra Motha’s ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand without naming the party.

Meanwhile, chief of Tipra Motha Pradyot Kishore Debbarma always speaks about Thansa and Constitutional Solution for ‘Greater Tipraland’.

“I strongly condemn the attack on our BJP Janajati Morcha National President and MP Sh @SameerOraon16 ji by hooligans of a political party returning from a public meeting held in Agartala. Those who speak of fundamental rights must also respect fundamental rights,” he wrote.

He mentioned, those who speak of fundamental rights must also respect fundamental rights of others. 

Meanwhile, police detained nine persons on Sunday in connection with the attack on the BJP ST Morcha National president and other Janajati Morcha leaders. After the interrogation, the detained persons were released on bail.

Janajati Morcha state president Bikas Debbarma, MDC Bidyut Debbarma and ex-MDC Patiram Tripura were attacked near Borduar in Barmura while returning to Agartala after attending an organizational meeting at Kanchanpur on Saturday evening.

The Tripura unit of BJP also condemned the attack and blamed Tipra Motha which is presently ruling in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Meanwhile, the attack was reported on the same day when the Tipra Motha held a public rally at Astabal ground in Agartala.
