Joint Ops: Two youths arrested in Tripura with pistol, live ammunition, Yaba tablets

Agartala, Sept 12: Two persons were arrested with a country-made pistol, live ammunition and suspected Yaba tablets during a joint operation by Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Sepahijala district on Saturday, police said.

The operation was carried out in the South Kalamchoura (Galachipa) area of Sonamura subdivision following a specific intelligence input, according to police.

A joint team comprising personnel from Kalamchoura and Sonamura police stations and the 81st Battalion of the BSF conducted the search operation under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sonamura.

During the raid, the security personnel recovered 120 grams of Yaba tablets, one factory-made pistol and five live rounds from the possession of the two suspects.

The arrested persons have been identified as Joynal Hossen (37), a resident of Madhya Boxanagar, and Prasanjit Sarkar (35), of South Kalamchoura.

Police said a case is being registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and firearm and determine whether the arrested persons have links with a wider network, police said.
