Agartala, June 26: In a unique initiative aimed at promoting rural entrepreneurship and women-led economic activities, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) has sanctioned a project for the North Tripura District Mission Management Unit (DMMU) to establish an Integrated Marketing Centre "JURI HAAT” by transforming the old jail premises.
The project seeks to transform the landmark spot into a vibrant commercial and cultural hub that will showcase products made by women Self-Help Group (SHG) members while creating new livelihood opportunities for rural entrepreneurs.
Once operational, JURI HAAT will feature a coffee house, a restaurant, dedicated sales outlets for SHG products, and spaces displaying handcrafted and locally produced items under one roof.
The centre is expected to serve as a unique destination for visitors seeking authentic local products, traditional crafts, and regional cuisine.
Officials said the initiative represents a symbolic transformation of a place once associated with confinement into a centre of opportunity, empowerment, and economic growth. The project is expected to strengthen market linkages for rural women producers and provide them with a sustainable platform to showcase and sell their products.
Renovation and development work at the site is progressing rapidly, with more than 90 per cent of the work already completed. Authorities are hopeful of inaugurating the Integrated Marketing Centre soon and opening it to shoppers, tourists, and food enthusiasts.
The upcoming facility is expected to emerge as a landmark destination in North Tripura, celebrating local enterprise, indigenous products, and the entrepreneurial spirit of rural communities.
