Kailashahar Airport's revival plan inches closer to reality as AAI team conducts inspection

Agartala, May 26: In a step toward reviving Tripura's Kailashahar Airport, a high-level team from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) visited the site on Monday to evaluate its potential for reopening.

Shuttered for more than three decades, the airport in Tripura’s Unakoti district is now at the center of renewed efforts to restore regional air connectivity.

The AAI delegation carried out an on-ground inspection, reviewing existing infrastructure, assessing runway visibility, and identifying additional land requirements.

The visit marked a major milestone in the prolonged push by the present government and local residents, who have consistently called for the restoration of the airport to boost accessibility in the region.

Among the visiting officials were M. Rajkishore, Regional Director of AAI’s Northeast Region, Kailash Chander Meena, Director of Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, and senior district administrators L. Darlong and Pradip Sarkar.

After the assessment, Rajkishore told reporters that the initial inspection had provided a clear picture of the challenges and possibilities ahead.

He confirmed that the next phase will involve detailed planning and close coordination with the Tripura government to chart the roadmap for reintroducing air services.
