Kidney Transplant: Tripura's GBP Hospital achieves another milestone

Agartala, Nov 12: In a testament to the growing medical prowess of Tripura, the GBP Hospital, the prime referral hospital of the state, has achieved another significant milestone with the second kidney transplant performed successfully.

The hospital authorities confirmed that both the donor and the recipient, Dr. Subhadip Acharjee, a 28-year-old doctor from Dhaleshwar, are recovering well post-surgery.

Dr. Acharjee's deteriorating kidney health necessitated an urgent transplant. Initially, he considered seeking treatment outside the state, but the success of the first kidney transplant at GBP Hospital inspired him to opt for local treatment. A close acquaintance generously volunteered to donate a kidney, making the life-saving procedure possible.

A highly skilled team of medical professionals, including experts from GBP Hospital and Manipur's Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, collaborated to perform the intricate surgery.

The team comprised renowned specialists like Dr. Bijit Lodh, Dr. Mukut Debnath, Dr. Manas Gope, and Dr. Samarish Pal. The surgical team was ably supported by dedicated nursing and technical staff from both institutions, ensuring the smooth execution of the procedure.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Superintendent of GBP Hospital, highlighted the state government's commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare. He said that both kidney transplants were performed free of cost, with the state government allocating approximately six lakhs for each procedure.

This remarkable achievement reflected the GBP Hospital's improved healthcare and brought hope to the state’s people.
