Koitorabari Incident: Situation ‘under control’, says Tripura Police

Agartala, Aug 26: Tripura Police on Monday assured that the situation at Koitorabari under West Tripura district, where a violence was reported on Sunday night following defacement of a Kali idol, was ‘under control’.
“The situation in Koitorabari under Ranir Bazaar PS has been brought under control, enough forces are deployed to tackle any kind of situation. Please refrain from spreading rumours, strict legal action will be taken against such miscreants”, the Tripura Police wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, the entire Jirania sub-division has been brought under a prohibitory order under section 163 of BNSS-2023 following the violence in which several houses and vehicle were torched and vandalized. Several persons were also injured in the incident. The order that came into force from 1 am of August 26 will be effective till 1 am of August 28. adequate security personnel were deployed in the area to avoid any further incident.
The tension prevailed after ‘unidentified miscreants’ defaced an idol Goddess Kali at a temple in the area.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha appealed to all for maintaining peace in the area, adding that the situation is ‘under control’.
Minister for Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury and senior police officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar visited the area on Monday and said the government would compensate for all the damages caused by the incident. He also appealed to the public to stay away from spreading any rumours.
Meanwhile, in a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, the CPM leaders demanded adequate security measures, compensation and relief for the victim families, a Suomoto FIR and proper investigation.
