Law and order situation improved in Tripura in the last one year: Governor

Agartala, Mar 13: The law and order situation in Tripura has witnessed significant improvement over the past year, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu said while addressing the first session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly for the current year.

In his address, the Governor stated that the present state government is keeping pace with the national wave of development and is striving to establish Tripura as a strong driving force in the North-Eastern region.

Highlighting various developmental initiatives undertaken by the government, the Governor presented detailed information on the steps being taken to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people of the state. Several aspects of the government’s activities and development programmes were outlined in his speech.

According to the Governor, the overall crime rate in the state declined by 8.33 percent between April and November 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

He said, property-related crimes dropped by 18.51 percent, crimes against women declined by 11 percent, rape cases decreased by 33 percent, murder cases fell by 26 percent, and cases of assault and physical violence reduced by 10 percent. He attributed the improvement to effective preventive measures and enhanced policing efforts.

Referring to the state’s anti-drug drive, the Governor said that under the “Neshamukta Tripura Abhiyan”, 350 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were registered against 515 accused between April and November 2025, during which a large quantity of narcotic substances was seized.

He further informed that two new police stations and two police outposts have recently been established in the state. Additionally, 953 constables and 218 sub-inspectors have been recruited to strengthen the police force.

The Governor also highlighted the state’s performance in revenue collection during the 2025-26 financial year. During this period, the state collected Rs. 994.23 crore in GST, Rs. 281.40 crore in VAT, Rs. 271.48 crore in excise duty, and Rs. 26.85 crore in professional tax, reflecting strong financial and tax management.

He stated that the state government is set to establish a homeopathy medical college and hospital at Netaji Subhas State Homeopathy Hospital, Agartala and an Ayurvedic medical college in Tepania, Udaipur. He added that the government has inaugurated new buildings for four primary health centers located in Damcherra (North District), Pecharthal (North District), Muhuripur (South District), and Niharnagar (South District).

The Governor said that the state government has issued Ayushman Cards to 5,78,160 beneficiaries from 2,64,184 families. Of these, 68,793 patients have received medical services, and Rs. 35.34 crore has been provided to various hospitals for the treatment of beneficiaries.

He added that e-office has been fully implemented in 2,544 offices, up to the GP/VC level. The state government launched the e-Cabinet on September 27, 2023, through which 43 meetings have been held and 595 decisions taken. As a result, Tripura achieved fourth place nationally for paperless administrative management in the cabinet system.

The Governor highlighted that the state government is equally committed to the welfare and development of tribal communities. Recognizing significant work in tribal welfare and inclusive governance, Tripura has received three prestigious national awards. Under the PM-Janman and Dharti Aba Janabagidari initiatives, Tripura was recognized as the top-performing state.

He stated that to reduce the gap between fish demand and production, the state government has undertaken large-scale cage fish farming initiatives. With assistance from NABARD, 1,584 cages were installed in the Dombur reservoir and Sitachara Lake at a cost of ₹19.59 crore.

The Governor noted that the government has expanded higher education infrastructure by establishing three new government degree colleges in Ambasa, Kakraban, and Khowbung, which started operations in the 2025-26 academic year. He said the government has initiated the process to upgrade the Women’s College into a women’s university and the Tripura Institute of Technology into a state technical university. Additionally, the government has approved the opening of a private open university in Udaipur, Mata Tripurasundari Open University, which will soon commence educational activities.

Highlighting infrastructure development, the Governor said that prioritizing improved connectivity and permanent infrastructure, the state government manages a vast road network of 10,617 kilometers. This includes 1,057 km of state highways, 172 km of major district roads, 483 km of other district roads, 1,167 km of urban roads, and 7,738 km of rural roads. Under the PM-Janman project, work is underway on 67 roads totaling 203 km at a cost of ₹189.89 crore. The government is also upgrading 113.58 km of national highways to two-lane roads with paved shoulders.

On drinking water, the Governor said that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the government has achieved significant success in providing tap connections to every rural household. Before the mission, only 24,502 rural families had tap water connections. As of January 15 this year, 6,47,855 rural families (86.28 percent of 7.5 lakh rural households) have received drinking water connections through the tap system.

On sports development, the Governor said the state government aims to achieve self-reliance in sports infrastructure within the next five years. Plans include establishing a national-level academy at the Netaji Subhas Regional Centre, developing modern facilities at Bholagiri, and setting up national-standard sports hubs at the district level.

The Governor said that under the PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) rural project, 3.76 lakh pucca houses have been constructed, along with 17,215 houses for Reang families. For this year, a new survey is being conducted covering 2.56 lakh families to provide an additional 1 lakh houses. He added that the state government has launched the “Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana” and “Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana 2.0” to construct 500 kilometers of all-season roads in remote villages and to enhance performance-based rural administration.

The Governor highlighted that the state government has provided special support to achieve significant milestones in the railway network. As a result, electrification of the railway line up to Sabroom has been completed. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, the state government is assisting in the redevelopment of railway stations. The first phase included the Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur stations, and the second phase added the Agartala station. The government has also advanced road safety through the Rah-Bir Project, awarding Rs. 25,000 each to 11 Good Samaritans.

He said that through the Mukhyamantri Yuva Sampark Yojana, 50,771 students have received support. The government has digitized welfare schemes via the Beneficiary Management System and Direct Benefit Transfer, distributing ₹2,097 crore to 12.01 lakh beneficiaries across 112 schemes.

Regarding tribal women artisans, the Governor said that through the Mukhyamantri Adivasi Mahila Taatshilpi Vikas Karyakram, 20,000 tribal women weavers were provided 1.25 kg of cotton thread each free of cost, helping preserve tradition while improving livelihoods.

He noted that infrastructure development, cultural initiatives, and private investment have helped Tripura emerge as a growing tourist destination, resulting in increased tourist arrivals and employment. Ten new eco-friendly log huts have been constructed in Sabimura, bringing the total to 51 log huts under the Swadeshi Darshan project.

In the 2025-26 financial year, the state government purchased 18,947 metric tons of paddy at a minimum support price costing Rs. 43.57 crore. Since 2018, a total of 2.44 lakh metric tons of paddy has been procured, with Rs. 489.70 crore directly credited to farmers’ accounts.

The Governor called upon everyone to extend a helping hand in the ongoing initiatives aimed at building Viksit Bharat by 2047
