Link with TUNF, one nabbed in North Tripura district

Agartala, Mar 20: In a significant breakthrough, Tripura Police have arrested an accused linked to an extremist outfit in connection with an explosives-related case registered at Vanghmun Police Station.

The arrested individual has been identified as Vanlal Liana Reang @ Ornojoy Reang (48) @ “Pastor.”

He was apprehended on Thursday in connection with Vanghmun PS Case No. 2025VGM007 dated August 14, 2025, registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.

According to police sources, the accused was initially intercepted by a patrol team of the TSR 13th Battalion along the Damchera–Kanchanpur road after his movements raised suspicion.

During the search, the TSR personnel recovered incriminating materials linked to the extremist outfit Tripura United National Front (TUNF). Following confirmation of his involvement in the case, he was handed over to Vanghmun police for further action.

Police sources said that the accused has links with TUNF, an extremist group allegedly involved in planning sabotage activities and blast attacks targeting police vehicles. 

The objective, police sources said, was to eliminate security personnel and loot arms and ammunition.

Authorities also recovered organizational seals of TUNF along with digital evidence from his possession. In earlier developments related to the same case, security forces had seized explosives, including electric detonators and a substance identified as Neogol-90.

Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other members of the network and prevent potential threats.
