Lotus blooms in Bengal, BJP secures thumping victory winning 207 seats

Agartala, May 04: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a thumping victory in West Bengal, ending 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.

The people of Bengal have spoken with unmatched clarity, scripting a historic chapter with their overwhelming support for the BJP. Beyond numbers and seats, this victory reflects the aspirations, emotions, and long-suppressed hopes of millions who dreamed of change, development, and a new political dawn in the state.

From the narrow lanes of villages to the bustling streets of Kolkata, chants of celebration echoed as party workers and supporters embraced each other with tears of joy and pride. For many, this triumph is not merely an electoral success, but the culmination of years of relentless struggle, sacrifice, and unwavering belief in a stronger and brighter Bengal.

The verdict is also being seen as a strong public response to years of alleged political violence, corruption charges, syndicate culture, and accusations of authoritarianism under the TMC regime. Many voters expressed frustration over unemployment, intimidation of opposition workers, and what they described as the erosion of democratic space in the state.

The BJP’s rise, supporters believe, symbolizes a rejection of fear-based politics and a demand for transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. As celebrations continue across Bengal, the outcome has undoubtedly altered the political landscape of the state in a dramatic and emotional fashion.

The BJP has won 207 seats to secure more than two-thirds majority in the Assembly. TMC trailed far behind, managing to win 80. Out of 294 assembly seats, results have been declared for 293 constituencies.

The Election Commission countermanded polls in the adjacent Falta constituency, citing severe electoral offences and subversion of democratic process during polling in a large number of booths. The fresh poll in that seat will take place on 21st of this month and counting on 24th of May.

Congress and Aam Janata Unnayan Party secured two seats each, CPI-M clinched one seat. For the first time since 1972, West Bengal is set to be governed by a party that is also in power at the Centre.

Voting for 294 seats in West Bengal was held in two phases on 23rd and 29th of last month. West Bengal registered record voter turnout of 92.47 per cent in two-phase polling– the highest since Independence.

More than 2.5 lakh personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), along with state police, were deployed in the run-up to the counting.
