LS Polls: BJP fields Kriti Singh Debbarma as candidate for East Tripura seat

Agartala, Mar 13: Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday fielded Kriti Singh, elder sister of Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, in the East Tripura seat for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Kirti’s name was in the air for the last few days and the speculations turned true on Wednesday after she was nominated as the BJP candidate.

The ruling BJP has dropped both the sitting MPs from West Tripura and East Tripura seats- Pratima Bhowmik and Rebati Tripura respectively, the party gave tickets to former Chief Minister and sitting MP Rajya Sabha Biplab Kumar Deb from West Tripura and Kriti Singh from East Tripura.

Meanwhile, the Congress party also declared Ashis Kumar Saha as its candidate from the West Tripura seat. But, no active step from the CPM was visible for giving candidate in the East seat so far.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and other state party leaders congratulated Kriti Singh on being nominated as the BJP candidate.

Bhattacharjee said, the party’s parliamentary board announced Kriti Singh Debbarma in the ST-reserved seat East Tripura. She is 52 years old and belongs to a royal family. Her husband is a two-time MLA in Chhattisgarh. She is experienced in the field of politics.

“I welcome the decision of the party’s central leadership. We all shall work together for the development of our Janajati people and building Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura,” Bhattacharjee said.

He is confident that the ruling BJP would secure a spectacular victory in both the parliamentary seats of Tripura.

Meanwhile, the development was followed by Tipra Motha’s participation in the BJP-led government in Tripura. The Tipra Motha, founded by Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, which happened to be the main opposition party in the state, is now a partner in the National Democratic Alliance.
