The grand Maayer Gomon puja carnival on Saturday evening turned Agartala into a spectacular sea of lights, rhythm, and emotion as the city bid farewell to Goddess Durga with devotion and splendour.
Thousands gathered along the main procession route to witness the colourful tableaux, traditional dhak beats, and captivating dance performances that marked the culmination of this year’s Durga Puja celebrations. The atmosphere was charged with festive energy as devotees cheered and waved while idols from various clubs paraded through the heart of the capital.
A highlight of the evening came when Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha was seen beating the dhak, joining the spirit of the festival amid thunderous applause from the crowd. His participation added a heartfelt touch to the farewell procession, symbolizing unity and joy across communities.
The carnival showcased an impressive blend of tradition and creativity — from meticulously designed idols to thematic floats depicting cultural heritage and social messages. The beats of dhak, conch shells, and chants of ‘Asche Bochor Abar Hobe’ echoed through the streets, leaving an indelible mark on every spectator’s heart.
Traffic and security arrangements were handled smoothly, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. As the idols made their way towards Dashamighat, the festive glow lingered — a reminder that Durga Puja in Tripura is not just a religious celebration but an emotion that binds the state together year after year.
The 2025 Maayer Gomon carnival will be remembered as an evening of joy, devotion, and unforgettable cultural splendour.
The fourth edition of Maayer Gomon, organised by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, turned out to be a grand spectacle of devotion and diversity. Over 40 clubs and puja organizers from across Agartala took part in the vibrant procession, each presenting unique cultural themes and artistic displays.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, joined by members of the state cabinet, ceremonially flagged-off the carnival and performed the traditional aarti, marking the beginning of the event.
This year’s Maayer Gomon beautifully reflected India’s cultural mosaic — with tableaux and performances depicting the traditions, attire, and dance forms of states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. The celebration not only highlighted Tripura’s festive spirit but also its deep appreciation of national unity through cultural expression.
The Chief Minister said that this year's Durga Puja passed off peacefully. He said that this year's Puja witnessed great enthusiasm among the Janajatis as well. Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha extended Dussera greetings to the people of the state.
“Whether it is Durga Puja or Mayer Gaman, the state government wants the development of art, culture, and literature, and its practice to grow further in Tripura. Keeping that in mind, initiatives have been taken to strengthen such an environment. This time too, I have participated in the Pujas organized by the Janajatis in various parts of the state on the occasion of Puja. Durga Pujas have been organized in tribal areas for many years. There is excitement and enthusiasm among the Janajatis surrounding Durga Puja which could not be witnessed before. This is developing our socio-economic condition. Like last year, this year too, Durga Puja was completed peacefully and beautifully without any incident,” he was quoted in a press release.
The event was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, DGP Anurag, ICA Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and other public representatives, officials, and prominent citizens of the society.
