Agartala, June 12: West Tripura District Magistrate has formally launched a magisterial probe into the mysterious death of a young girl whose body was recovered from a hostel room at private-run Shantiniketan Medical College two days ago, triggering widespread concern and demands for a thorough probe.
District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar visited the institution on Friday to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident and oversee the initial stages of the inquiry.
The investigation was initiated following directions from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha amid allegations raised by the victim's family regarding the nature of her death.
The deceased, 22-year-old Manisha Das, was employed as an assistant in the college's examination cell. She was found hanging inside a room of the girls' hostel on Wednesday, prompting police and administrative intervention.
While preliminary findings by Amtali police indicated a possible case of suicide, investigators have continued to examine multiple angles. A youth has reportedly been taken into custody for questioning as part of the on-going investigation.
During his visit, the District Magistrate inspected the hostel premises, reviewed available evidence, and held discussions with college authorities and officials connected to the case. Sources said the inquiry aims to establish a clear sequence of events leading to the woman's death.
Dr. Kumar also met members of the bereaved family and assured them that the administration would conduct a transparent and impartial investigation. He emphasized that all relevant facts would be examined before any conclusions are drawn.
Officials stated that the magisterial inquiry is in its initial phase and that statements, records, and other evidentiary materials will be scrutinized as the investigation progresses.
