Man held with Fake Currencies worth Rs 21,000 in Tripura’s Khowai, probe underway

Agartala, May 27: Tripura Police arrested a man in Khowai district after allegedly recovering counterfeit Indian currency notes worth Rs 21,000 during an operation carried out on Wednesday.
Police sources said the accused, identified as 42-year-old Kartik Debnath of West Sonatala under Khowai Police Station, was first intercepted by personnel of the District Intelligence Branch (DIB) of Khowai along with Special Branch staff from Kalyanpur at Bagan Bazar in the Kalyanpur area.
During initial verification, officials allegedly recovered fake Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 7,600 from his possession.
He was then taken to Kalyanpur Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings. He is reportedly a teacher by profession.
Based on the preliminary findings, police later conducted a search at Debnath’s residence in West Sonatala.
During the raid, officers reportedly seized additional counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 13,400.
Apart from the fake notes, police also recovered and seized 57 SP tablets from the house, raising suspicion of possible involvement in other unlawful activities.
With the fresh seizure, the total value of counterfeit currency recovered in the case has reached Rs 21,000.
Police have registered a case and initiated legal proceedings while further investigation is underway to determine the source of the counterfeit notes and whether others were involved in the network.
