Mayor unveils ambitious 20-year master plan for 'Greater Agartala'

The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled an ambitious new 20-year master plan to guide the capital's expansion and development.

Speaking to the reporters, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted 'Greater Agartala' plan, a comprehensive blueprint aiming to address years of unplanned growth by creating a clear roadmap for the city’s future.

The Mayor announced that the new plan extends beyond the city's existing 51 wards to include 49 Gram Panchayats located in the vicinity. This strategic move anticipates future urban sprawl, allowing for controlled expansion and infrastructure development in these areas as needed.

According to the Mayor, the city's lack of a previous master plan had led to haphazard and unorganized development. The new plan, however, is designed to be a holistic framework. It includes dedicated allocations for critical future projects such as metro stations, new industrial estates, and an improved network of roads and flyovers to enhance connectivity.

The plan was developed using advanced GIS technology to ensure precision and accuracy. Furthermore, the Urban Development department is creating a complementary 3D model of the city, which will provide a visual representation of the proposed changes.

In response to the rapid rise of apartment-based living in the city, new real estate laws are also being considered as part of the overall initiative.

The Mayor noted that the first phase of the master plan has been completed and is currently under review by the AMC council. Once approvals are secured, the city will begin framing new policies based on the detailed plan.
