Methane Gas possible reason behind shocking explosion in house

Agartala, July 19: Accumulation of Methane Gas is the bathroom and leakage in Oxygen cylinder have been marked as possible reason behind a shocking explosion in a multi-storied building in Agartala.

A couple was injured in the incident reported on Thursday late night.

Initially, theories among the people ranged from bursting of air conditioner to the presence of explosives. However, West Tripura Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kiran Kumar based on forensic experts' opinion told media that the explosion might have resulted from excessive methane gas accumulation in the bathroom.
Residents near the Tripura Police Headquarters reported sound of a massive explosion. A neighbor discovered the couple, Dr. Biswajit Sutradhar and his wife Rupa Sutradhar, in the parking area after they had fallen from their second-floor room following the explosion. The window of their room got collapsed and they along with bedding fell down from the second floor.
The Forensic team, along with disaster management and bomb squad units, examined the scene but found no explosives. Experts noted an oxygen cylinder leak and an unusual smell in the bathroom, indicating a possible methane gas explosion.
The injured couple was rushed to the hospital. Dr. Biswajit Sutradhar's condition is stable, but his wife Rupa Sutradhar remains critical. 
The investigation is still underway. The Forensic experts have collected samples. Residents expressed their shock that Agartala has never experienced such an incident before.
