Udaipur, May 19: Authorities have reassigned two police personnel from security duty at the famous Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur following allegations of inappropriate behaviour with visiting devotees.
The action came after several complaints were reportedly raised by pilgrims and local residents regarding the conduct of the officers deployed at the temple premises, popularly known as Matabari.
The complaints alleged that devotees visiting the shrine had faced rude treatment on multiple occasions over the past few months. Sources said the matter was brought to the attention of the district administration, prompting authorities to intervene and review the deployment of the concerned personnel.
Following the decision, Assistant Sub-Inspector Eva Saha has been shifted to the Women Police Station, while Head Constable Babul Chandra Das has been reassigned to Udaipur Police Lines.
At a time when both the state and central governments are working to develop this historic temple as an international religious tourism destination, such behaviour by police personnel tarnished the image of the state.
The development has been welcomed by many devotees and local residents, who had been demanding corrective measures to ensure a more respectful and pilgrim-friendly atmosphere at one of Tripura’s most revered religious sites.
The Tripura Sundari Temple attracts thousands of devotees from across Tripura and neighbouring states throughout the year, making visitor management and public conduct a sensitive issue for the administration.
