Mock exercise on disaster, wartime management held in Agartala

Agartala, June 1: A large-scale disaster management mock drill focusing on civil defence air raid and blackout scenarios was conducted at the Umakanta Academy ground in Agartala on Monday.

The mock exercise was organized under the initiative of the Sadar sub-divisional administration.

The drill simulated emergency response measures during a wartime disaster situation and aimed to assess the preparedness of various agencies involved in rescue, relief and crisis management operations.

The drill witnessed the participation of multiple emergency response and security agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Fire and Emergency Services, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), SP Communication of Tripura Police, the Health Department, Agartala Municipal Corporation, Assam Rifles, the Sports Department, NCC and Apda Mitra volunteers.

Addressing the gathering, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das said the exercise was designed to demonstrate how authorities would respond to and manage relief operations in the event of a wartime emergency or disaster situation.

“If such a crisis arises, preparedness and coordinated action are crucial. Today's drill showcased how different agencies would work together to carry out rescue and relief operations effectively,” he said.

He informed that 11 rescue teams participated in the exercise and thanked all government departments and organisations involved for ensuring the successful conduct of the programme.

The event also featured discussions on disaster preparedness, rescue techniques and relief management by NDRF Inspector R K Meena, Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate Diparaj Roy and Sadar DCM Susmita Chakraborty, among others.

Officials said the mock exercise was aimed at strengthening inter-agency coordination and enhancing preparedness to deal with emergency situations, including air raids, blackouts and other disaster-related contingencies.

The participating units included PWD, TSECL, ONGC, GAIL, IOCL, Health Department, DEO, Traffic Department, Communication Department, BSNL, ICA Department, Youth Affairs & Sports, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Indian Red Cross Society, and dedicated Apda Mitra/Civil Defence Volunteers.
