MoS Menakshi Lekhi visits Unakoti, Intl rail project in Tripura

Agartala/ Kailashahar, Dec 04: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi inspected Unakoti, one of the key tourist destinations in the state, and progress of Agartala- Akhaura international rail link project on Thursday.
The MoS expressed her satisfaction about the beauty of Unakoti.
“Astonished by the beauty of Unakoti Rock cut carvings. The place has been put on tentative list to become UNESCO world heritage site,” she wrote on X.
While visiting the Agartala-Akhaura Rail link project at Nischintapur, she had discussions with the officials of IRCON, Railways and Border Security Force.
The MoS, who arrived in Tripura on a three-day tour on Wednesday, during her Unakoti district visit chaired a review meeting with the district officials and State’s Sports minister Tinku Toy. She reviewed the implementation status of various Central schemes.
Her visit in the state on Thursday also included interaction with SHG members and visits to Albert Ekka War Memorial, Ujjayanta Palace, Kaman Chowmuhani and other places.
During her interactions with the SHG members under Gournagar block in Unakoti district, the MoS said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has been working to build Viksit Bharat by 2047.
She said, the number of bank accounts of rural women was very low before 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid special emphasis on opening bank accounts by the rural women for their socio-economic development. Now, the poor people are receiving the benefits of Jan Dhan Yojana.
The MoS also mentioned about the central government’s special focus on making the women Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) through Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Before the interaction programme, she held a meeting with the district officials in presence of Minister Tinku Roy and inspected border check post at Kailashahar and Srirampur and visited the house of one beneficiary under PMAY-R.
Earlier on Wednesday, the MoS paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and discussed various matters including the state’s development.
