MoS Tokhan Sahu reviews welfare projects in Tripura's Khowai district

Agartala, Nov 22: Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Tokhan Sahu conducted a comprehensive review of various welfare projects during his visit to Khowai district on Friday.

The union minister met with district officials to assess the progress of several central government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the local population. 

The meeting was attended by key district officials, including District Magistrate Saju Wahid, Additional DMs- Abhijit Chakraborty and Sumit Kumar Pandey, two Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and representatives from various government departments. The discussions focused on the implementation status of welfare schemes, challenges, and potential solutions to expedite progress.

Sahu highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and its transformative impact on building a resilient and prosperous society. As part of his visit, the minister visited an old-age Home established under the Deendayal Upadhyaya National Urban Livelihood Mission. He interacted with the women residing there, reassuring them of the government’s commitment to their welfare under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister also inspected the India-Bangladesh border fencing in the region and lauded the BSF personnel for their dedication to national security.

The union minister also inaugurated new homes built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). He along with local residents and officials participated in a ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony, symbolizing the fulfillment of the beneficiaries’ dreams of owning a home. Residents warmly welcomed the minister with traditional rituals, including the blowing of conch shells and floral offerings.

At the newly constructed Khowai bus terminal, the MoS inaugurated an exhibition organized by self-help groups, showcasing their social and economic progress. The women entrepreneurs shared stories of how government support enabled them to become job creators, achieving financial independence and uplifting their families.

In the final leg of his Khowai visit on Friday, the union minister visited a solid waste management facility established under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The facility is managed by local women-run SHG groups. The minister praised their innovative approach and pledged continued support for sustainable development.
