Agartala, Sept 22: Tripura has registered a sharp decline in the total number of crimes over three years since 2018.

According to the ‘Crime in India 2020’ report published by National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB), Tripura recorded 16,719 crimes in the three years-- 6078 crimes in 2018, 5988 in 2019 and 4653 crimes in 2020.

Tripura charge-sheeted 71.7 percent crimes in 2020, according to the NCRB report.

The number of Crime Against Women (CAW) also came down in Tripura from 1,070 in 2019 to 874 in 2020 while the state also saw a decline in the number of murders—from 144 in 2019 to 114 in 2020.

The NCRB report shows that Tripura registered 2 murder with rape cases, 79 cases of rape (under section 376 IPC) and 13 rape attempts along with 93 hit and run cases, 127 kidnapping and abduction and 61 incidents of assault on women.

Meanwhile, as per the crime data released by Tripura Police, total 2422 IPC crimes including 70 murders, 78 incidents of rioting, 89 cases of kidnapping, 12 cases of robbery, five cases of dacoity, 83 incidents of burglary and 205 theft cases were reported in the current year till July.

In the meantime, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb heavily came down on CPM over political violence.

Deb in a tweet on September 20 wrote that Tripura had recorded 75 incidents of political conflicts in 2017 (Left regime) with 175 victims. But, after the formation of the new government, the number of political conflicts had come down to 22 with 51 victims.

He was replying to a tweet of CPI-M politburo leader Sitaram Yechury. Deb asked to remove CPI-M from Tripura to remove crime.

“Violence in Tripura is legacy of CPM. In 2017 during CPM rule, 75 incidents of political conflicts, 175 victims & rate 1.9%. In just 3 years, we have drastically reduced it to 1/3rd with just 22 incidents, 51 victims & rate 0.5%. To remove crime from Tripura, remove CPM,” Deb tweeted.

Earlier sharing a news, Yechury tweeted, “This National Crime Records Bureau report confirms that the BJP state government in Tripura is resorting to fascistic methods against CPI(M) to cover up it’s misrule & growing unpopularity.”
