Agartala, Jan 11: As part of Neshamukt Tripura campaign, the state police arrested 1052 people and registered 633 cases in 2023.
In reply to a calling attention notice moved by CPM MLA Jitendra Chaudhary, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in the assembly also highlighted the Tripura Police's achievements in the fight against drugs over the past three years.
He said, the numbers of arrests under NDPS Act were 501 and 759 in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The figure had increased to 1052 in 2023.
Similarly, the state also saw an increase in the number of NDPS cases registered over the past three years. The figures were 352 in 2021, 562 in 2022 and 633 in 2023.
The seizures of various contraband items in the last year included 46,631 kg ganja, 3,08,582 bottles of cough syrup, 4,44,166 tablets and 18,844 grams heroin. Besides, 68,73,935 ganja plants were destroyed, the Chief Minister informed the House.
He also spoke about the steps and campaign programmes taken by the government to curb the drugs menace.
Dr. Saha said, various social organisations, NGOs, local bodies and common people are being involved in the fight to further strengthen it.
As per central guidelines, one state level committee and district level committees of Neshamukt Bharat Campaign have been constituted to assess and the situation and take plans to control it.
Under the Neshamukt Tripura campaign, the National Service Scheme (NSS), state chapter conducted awareness programmes in 22 Degree Colleges. Besides, to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS, Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre have been introduced in 24 hospitals, Facility Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre have been introduced in 133 hospitals, three PPP-ICTC and Mobile Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre have also been introduced.
