With coordinated efforts and under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the North East region can emerge as the model for child rights protection before the country, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Thursday.
The Chief Minister also said, the children of this region are full of talent, creativity and resilience. With the right support, they can shine in the country as well as across the world.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 'One Day North Eastern Regional Convention on Child Rights' at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, Dr Saha emphasized the need to protect the child rights.
He said, investing in children is not less than investing in our collective future. A child protected and nurtured today will become a responsible citizen tomorrow.
Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the government, the Chief Minister said that Tripura currently runs 44 child care institutions, offering shelter and support to nearly 950 children. Additionally, over 4,200 children are being assisted through the state’s sponsorship programme.

Dr. Saha said, Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees are operational across all eight districts to ensure rehabilitation and legal protection for children in need. Special Juvenile Police Units have also been set up to make investigation procedure child-friendly, while round-the-clock helplines are functional to provide immediate assistance.
On the education front, he said the state is focusing on universal enrollment, especially in remote areas, to ensure that no child is deprived of education.
He further said that in July 2025 alone, more than 2.29 lakh children were brought under the Nutrition and Poshan scheme, significantly boosting growth monitoring and malnutrition prevention.
The Chief Minister also shared that between 2022 and 2025, a total of 28 children have been legally adopted in Tripura, offering them a safe and secure future.
The convention was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Tripti Gurha, and delegates from all Northeastern states.
