Agartala, June 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charge-sheeted a key operative allegedly leading the activities of a Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)-linked outfit in Tripura, along with 10 others, in connection with a terror conspiracy aimed at expanding the banned organisation's network and radicalising vulnerable youth across the Northeast and West Bengal. 

Among the 11 accused, Jagir Mia has been identified as the person allegedly heading IMK's activities in Tripura, while Nasimuddin was leading the outfit's operations in Assam. 

According to an NIA press release issued on Friday, the chargesheet has been filed before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. 

The investigation revealed that the conspiracy was orchestrated by Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK), an offshoot of the proscribed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), with the objective of spreading the outfit's extremist ideology in West Bengal and several northeastern states, including Assam and Tripura. 

NIA said the accused were actively involved in promoting the terrorist organisation's agenda through radicalisation of vulnerable youth, expansion of its network, circulation of extremist literature, religious indoctrination programmes, clandestine meetings, and the use of digital platforms for anti-India propaganda. 

The probe found that senior JMB member Imam Mahmud Habibullah had established IMK to further the banned outfit's activities in India. The chargesheeted accused allegedly worked together to strengthen the presence of IMK/JMB and encouraged allegiance to the organisation's leadership. 

During the course of the investigation, NIA recovered several incriminating documents, electronic devices and digital records, which it said formed crucial evidence in building the case against the accused. 

The agency said further investigation into the case, registered as RC-01/2026/NIA/GUW, is continuing.
