Organ Transplant: MOHAN Foundation appoints project coordinator in Tripura

As per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between GBP Hospital, Agartala and Mohan Foundation, the procedure for organ transplant has started in Tripura’s prime referral hospital.

The collaboration was formalized through the MoU April this year, aimed at developing a sustainable organ transplant ecosystem in the state, according to official sources.

To spearhead this initiative, Vincent Debbarma has been appointed as the project coordinator for Tripura. Having officially assumed responsibility on June 1, he is currently receiving advanced training to handle the sensitive and specialized nature of the role.

The AGMC & GBP Hospital has already earmarked a dedicated office space for the Foundation’s operations, while plans are in motion to bring another transplant coordinator on board soon.

A delegation from MOHAN Foundation is expected to arrive in Agartala by the end of June. Their visit will focus on conducting technical training programs for medical professionals and launching public awareness campaigns to dispel myths surrounding organ donation.

Additionally, efforts are in progress to set up a Steering Committee under the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Tripura. This committee will oversee the framework of organ transplantation in the state and help build a network of medical professionals equipped to carry out transplant procedures.

The initiative is expected to pave the way for Tripura’s first successful organ transplant in the near future, bringing new hope to patients awaiting critical care.
