Agartala, June 15: In a swift decision, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has ordered suspension of a police officer, during a night walk on Tuesday.
The suspended police officer is Kiran Sankar Chowdhury, posted as Officer-in-Charge (OC) at A D. Nagar police station in the city.
Elaborating the Incident, Deb said he had prior information that the street lights in around one kilometre stretch near the border were kept off. He said the locals informed him that the lights were kept off for a long time because some illegal activities were going on.
"When the street lights are off, some illegal activities like drugs dealing take place there. Today, when I reached there, I saw around 25-30 people, who were assembled there, were fleeing away. The OC who moved ahead fast, was seen asking them to leave the spot instead of capturing them. Later, the locals said that they were engaged in drug business and illegal activities."
"An investigation will be conducted to unearth if any issue is there but for the time being, I ordered immediate suspension of the OC for his activities," the Chief Minister told media. (File Photo)
