Agartala, Apr 19: The voting for West Tripura parliamentary constituency and Ramnagar by-election was peaceful on Friday except a few sporadic incidents.
Addressing the media, Returning Officer for West Tripura LS seat Dr. Vishal Kumar said over 80.4 percent turnout was recorded till 5 pm.
He said, around 23,000 voters were in the queues in 232 polling stations after 5 pm. So, the poll percentage would go up by 2-3 percent after final count.
Of the total 1,686 polling booths, the voting process had concluded in around 1,400 polling booths by 5 pm. Belonia assembly constituency recorded the highest turnout 85.64 percent and the lowest (68.64 percent) voting was recorded at 7- Ramnagar assembly constituency.
The polling parties already started returning to seven locations-- one in West Tripura district, three in Sepahijala district, one in Gomati and two in South Tripura, the Returning Officer stated, adding that the poll patrolling would continue for tonight.
He also mentioned that some complaints were there since beginning of the poll process. Many of the complaints were found false and the other issues were addressed immediately. He said, additional forces were mobilized from Dhalai and other districts. In Mohanpur arrests were made and in Ramnagar, preventive detention was done.
He also said, two polling personnel were suspended from a polling station under Ramnagar assembly segment.
He thanked the political parties for extending cooperation in holding the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Replying to a query, the Returning Officer said that the West Tripura parliamentary constituency had recorded 82.4 percent turnout in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. After the final count, this year's voting percentage would be more than that of 2019.
