Udaipur, Sept 22: On the sacred first day of Navratri, Tripura witnessed a historic and devotional moment as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari Temple complex at Udaipur, one of the 51 revered Shakti Peethas.
Amid divine aura, the Prime Minister, dressed in traditional Bengali attire—dhoti, Punjabi, and Namabali—offered prayers at the sanctum sanctorum. His choice of attire was not just ceremonial but a gesture of deep cultural reverence, symbolizing respect for the land’s traditions and devotion to the presiding deity, Maa Tripurasundari.

Marking his 11th visit to the state since 2014, the Prime Minister unveiled the temple complex's new look under the Centre’s PRASHAD scheme, which, with support from the state government, has transformed the shrine into a world-class spiritual destination.
The Rs. 52.4 crore project has introduced upgraded facilities, including meditation halls, a museum, service spaces for pilgrims, and a unique tortoise-shaped terrace, while ensuring accessibility with lifts for the elderly and differently-abled devotees.
Despite scorching heat and strict security arrangements, thousands of devotees thronged the temple town of Matabari. Many reached the shrine at dawn, offering their prayers before security restrictions were enforced. For the faithful, the day was more than an inauguration—it was the convergence of devotion, tradition, and national attention.
The Prime Minister’s convoy from Palatana to Matabari was welcomed by people lining the roadsides, braving sun and humidity, waving the Tricolour, and showering their blessings.
At the temple, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and other dignitaries joined the occasion.
The sacred ambience of the shrine, where animal sacrifices were performed as per age-old custom earlier in the morning, was further elevated by the Prime Minister’s prayers.
His presence turned the temple into a national focus, with with trending on X throughout the day.
“It’s a matter of great joy that Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s visit is trending on X! Mata Tripurasundari Temple is now in the spotlight, drawing attention from across the country,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha remarked with delight.
The day’s events beautifully blended spirituality with modernity. What stood out most was not just the grandeur of the redeveloped complex, but the spiritual bond reflected in every prayer, every folded hand, and every chant that echoed through the temple town.
On Navratri’s first day, Mata Tripurasundari’s abode shone brighter, carrying with it the hopes and devotion of thousands.
