PM Modi shares glimpses of development projects in Guwahati

New Delhi, March 14, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth nearly ₹19,480 crore in Guwahati, Assam. Addressing a massive public gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister extended his greetings to the people present at the event as well as farmers and tea garden workers who joined the programme virtually from different parts of the country.
In a series of posts, the Prime Minister highlighted the cultural and developmental importance of the region. Referring to Kokrajhar, he noted that the district is closely linked with the rich and proud Bodo culture and expressed happiness at addressing a programme via video conferencing to mark the launch of several development initiatives aimed at accelerating progress in the region.
He said multiple welfare and infrastructure initiatives were launched from Guwahati that would further strengthen Assam’s development trajectory and significantly benefit the people of the state. The Prime Minister also appreciated the enthusiasm of the large crowd gathered at the event, saying their energy reflected a strong commitment towards development.
Modi expressed satisfaction over the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers in Assam, stating that the initiative would improve their quality of life and bring long-awaited security and dignity to thousands of families working in tea estates.
The Prime Minister also released the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi for farmers, saying the scheme has become a vital support system for small and marginal farmers across the country. He remarked that while the Congress had earlier questioned the scheme, it has now emerged as an important instrument of social security and respect for farmers.
Highlighting Assam’s growing role in the energy sector, Modi said new renewable energy projects launched in the state would benefit not only Assam but the entire Northeast region.
He also said the government views tourism as a major driver of employment and economic growth in Assam, adding that the “double engine government” has been working to transform the sector into a powerful engine of prosperity for the people.
