PM Modi to open Matabari in new shape on first day of Navratri, Tripura ready for historic event

Tripura is gearing up for a historic occasion as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on September 22, the first day of Navratri.

The Prime Minister will dedicate the development works done under PRASAD Scheme to transform the Mata Tripurasundari Temple into a world-class spiritual tourism destination and he will also perform puja in the revered temple.

This will be the Prime Minister’s 11th visit to Tripura since 2014 and his second visit to the sacred Mata Tripurasundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.

The divine aura of Matabari, has been illuminated further by its redeveloped grandeur. The temple complex has been decorated beautifully with flowers and lights ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has extended the invitation to the Prime Minister to inaugurate the redeveloped temple premises, a project that has transformed the historic shrine into a world-class spiritual tourism site.

An estimated Rs. 52.4 crore has been invested in the redevelopment—Rs. 17 crore from the state government and the rest funded by the Centre—reflecting the commitment to promote Tripura’s cultural heritage and tourism potential and spirituality.

The new infrastructures, implemented by the Tourism Department, offer modern amenities while preserving its divine aura.

The ground floor houses facilities for Prasad distribution, shoe rooms, and trading space for local vendors. The middle floor includes a priest’s chamber, meditation hall, and museum, while the terrace, designed in the shape of a turtle, provides a unique spiritual ambience. Lifts have also been installed to ensure convenience for elderly devotees and divyangjans.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the Prime Minister’s presence will not only add sanctity to the Navratri celebrations but will also showcase Tripura’s spiritual wealth to the global stage.

“The visit will significantly boost tourist footfall at the Mata Tripurasundari Temple and promote Tripura as a major spiritual tourism hub,” he remarked during the Assembly session.

Security and final arrangements are underway as thousands are expected to gather to witness the Prime Minister’s journey from the helipad to the temple premises.

The people of Tripura are filled with excitement and pride as they prepare to welcome the Prime Minister, who will also offer prayers at the temple.

Devotees believe that every prayer in Mata Tripurasundari Temple is answered, and the prospect of the Prime Minister himself performing puja at this sacred Shakti Peetha has filled people with immense joy and reverence.
