PM Modi's Tripura visit: SPG team arrives, preparations in full swing for Matabari event

The air in Tripura is charged with excitement as the state prepares to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22.

On Tuesday, a Special Protection Group (SPG) team touched down in Agartala in a special Indian Air Force flight, carrying the Prime Minister’s convoy vehicles and kick-starting preparations.

The SPG officers immediately began coordination with senior state police officials and are set to visit the Tripurasundari Temple in Udaipur to review security arrangements.

The second SPG team of senior officers is also expected to arrive soon, underscoring the elaborate measures being put in place for the high-profile visit. Multi-layered security will cover Agartala airport, the road and air routes to Udaipur, and the temple premises.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to reach the sacred Matabari on the afternoon of September 22, where he will inaugurate the redeveloped temple complex under the PRASAD Scheme in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and offer prayers to Maa Tripurasundari.

According to officials, the Prime Minister will not address a public rally during this visit.
For the people of Udaipur, however, the excitement needs no speech. The news of the Prime Minister’s arrival has already turned the temple town into a hub of anticipation.

Streets are being spruced up, necessary arrangements are being put in place, and local residents are looking forward to catching even a glimpse of the Prime Minister.

“It feels like a festival ahead of the festivals,” said a local resident, referring to the upcoming Durga Puja and Diwali celebrations.

Inside Matabari, the redeveloped temple premises are nearly ready, with finishing touches underway. The facelift, blending tradition with modern amenities, has added a fresh vibrancy to the centuries-old shrine—making the Prime Minister’s visit even more significant.

Meanwhile, the state administration and police are working in close coordination with the SPG to ensure a seamless and safe visit. From crowd management to emergency response, no stone is being left unturned.
