Agartala, Feb 23: Tripura is all set to host first-ever national-level police football championship, bringing together teams from across India for a high-stakes competition.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will inaugurate the 73rd BN Mullik Memorial All India Police Football Championship 2025 (men & women) at Umakanta Mini Stadium, Agartala at 9:30 am on Monday.
Organized by the Tripura Police, this tournament will conclude with the grand finale on March 7 next.
The opening match will see defending champions Mizoram face off against Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for an intense tournament.
Earlier DGP Amitabh Ranjan shared that the tournament will witness the participation of 45 teams—comprising 36 men’s teams and nine women’s teams—representing 25 states, four Union Territories, and seven Central Forces.
Approximately 1,500 players, including 60 national and international-level players, will showcase their skills on the field. Tripura will be competing in both categories, with the men’s team led by Badal Debbarma and the women’s team featuring Bulti Chowdhury as captain.
The DGP assured that extensive preparations have been taken to ensure the smooth execution of the tournament. He sought cooperation and support from the people of Tripura.
Matches will be played on state-of-the-art astro-turf fields across multiple venues, including Agartala, Jirania, Mohanpur, Jampuijala, and Udaipur.
The tournament will adopt a league-cum-knockout format, featuring a total of 102 matches, with 81 in the men’s category. To maintain fairness and efficiency, a team of 40 referees and match officials will oversee the proceedings, with several matches set to take place under floodlights.
A sense of excitement already gripped the football lovers across the state. The stage is set for an electrifying championship that promises thrilling football action and a showcase of top-tier talents from across the country.
