Preparations begin for Tripura VC polls

Agartala, May 9: After the high-voltage ADC elections, the State Election Commission (SEC) has now initiated the process for identifying and finalising polling stations for the forthcoming elections to the Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

In a directive issued on Saturday, the SEC instructed all Returning Officers across the state to prepare polling station lists for their respective blocks in line with the provisions of the TTAADC Village Committees (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1996.

The Returning Officers, who are serving as Block Development Officers (BDOs), have been asked to compile separate polling station details for every Village Constituency falling under their jurisdiction.

As per the election-related timeline released by the Commission, the draft list of polling stations will be published on May 11. Political parties, local bodies and members of the public will be allowed to submit claims or objections regarding the proposed polling stations till May 15.

The SEC stated that all objections and suggestions received during the period would be examined and resolved on May 16. Following this, the finalised list of polling stations is scheduled to be published on May 18.

The Commission has also directed officials to maintain a geographical sequence while numbering polling stations, beginning from the north-western side of a block and proceeding towards the south-east.

To ensure transparency in the process, copies of the draft polling station lists will be shared with recognised political parties and displayed prominently at the offices of Returning Officers as well as Village Committees for public access and verification.

The exercise is being carried out as part of preparations for the upcoming Village Committee elections in the TTAADC areas, which govern the tribal-dominated regions of Tripura.
