Present Tripura Govt giving jobs based on merit: CM

Agartala, May 15: The present Tripura government is providing jobs based on merit in a transparent manner, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said.

He also stressed on transparency and accountability in ensuring good governance.

He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the 2024 batch of Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officers, who completed their six-month induction training organized by SIPARD. The event was held at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala on Thursday.

Efforts must be made to ensure that the benefits of government welfare schemes reach the rightful beneficiaries, the Chief Minister said.

He also noted, the TCS officers play a vital role as a bridge between the government and the people. Along with implementing public welfare policies, they also fulfill the aspirations of the citizens.

In his address, Dr. Saha highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on bringing competent and talented youth into administrative roles. He praised the newly appointed officers, calling them a boost to the state’s administrative strength.

Success follows when hard work accompanies merit, he added, pointing out that the transparent recruitment process has built public trust in the government.

The Chief Minister reiterated that since coming to power, the current state government has scrapped the old recruitment policy in favor of a fully transparent system.

Jobs are now being offered based on merit, not political allegiance. There is no place for politics in good governance, he affirmed, urging officers to work impartially for the public welfare. 

He encouraged the new officers to build strong connections with the public and contribute significantly to state development.

Stressing on capacity building, he said the Prime Minister has laid special emphasis on training in the employment sector, as well as improving workforce efficiency and quality. The officers must continually upgrade their knowledge through training and apply it in the field, he said.

The Chief Minister highlighted the on-going efforts to fill vacancies through a transparent process and underscored the importance of regular training.

Since 2001, a total of 596 officers from 19 TCS batches have received training at SIPARD, covering human resource management, criminal law, and administrative affairs. Notably, a total of 30 officers from the 2024 TCS batch will now enter active service after completing their six-month training at SIPARD.

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, in his remarks, called on the officers to play a transformative role in building a developed Tripura through public welfare work. 

He stressed the importance of economic development in rural areas.

SIPARD Director Apurba Roy outlined the training programme’s key features, and Registrar Dr. Sumit Roy Choudhury delivered the vote of thanks.
